Move as 1, to back the courts.
It all started with a few lines and some paint. When Dan Peterson, a former college basketball player and coach, was in Memphis, Tennessee, he noticed the neighborhood basketball courts were missing a vital component: lines. No three-point lines or free throw lines. So he started to paint them. This lead to a bigger idea: partner with local artists to revive the run-down basketball courts in their community. He started the non-profitProject Backboard in Los Angeles and now crisscrosses the country to create beautiful, colorful courts.
Focusing on a recent court rebuild, Watts Oasis, we supported Dan’s efforts to upkeep the court that also serves as a parking lot. As well as told the story of how Dan and the rest of the Watts Oasis project team came together to rebuild an important part of the Watts basketball and art community. Using interesting camera language and archival footage we plan to make the viewers feel like they were part of the entire process.
